From June 4 to 6, the International Scientific Congress on Waste Management was held at the University Federico Henríquez y Carvajal (UFHEC) in Santo Domingo, where Managing Director Dr. Jonas Finck gave a lecture. In his presentation “The potential of insects as decomposers in the recycling industry” he informed about the enormous potential of the larvae of the black soldier fly to recycle organic waste in a short time. Care4Waste is a research alliance between Europe and Latin America to improve waste management by strengthening the transfer of knowledge from countries such as Germany and Poland. International speakers at the congress included the Institute for the Ecology of Industrial Areas (IETU) from Poland, the University of San Carlos in Guatemala (USAC) and the Fraunhofer Institute from Germany. Furthermore, local experts and authorities were on site to exchange ideas. More information about this event can be found here.
